ABOUT TCDS
HISTORY
The Trinity College Dramatic Society (TCDS) was established in 1919, and since 1921 has put on at least one full-length production each year.

The TCDS used Hart House as a performance venue from 1921 until 1979, when the George Ignatieff Theatre (GIT) was constructed at Trinity. Since then, most productions are now in the GIT, but it is now under construction until 2026. This opens room for plays to be staged in other rooms at Trinity, including 'unconventional' performance spaces. Most notably, Trinity has held Shakespeare in the Quad productions - a continuation of the oldest outdoor Shakespeare festival in Canada.
The TCDS frequently performs student-written productions, especially in Hart House's annual Dramafest. Prior TCDS student playwrights include the Canadian film director Atom Egoyan and the journalist John Ibbitson.
In recent years, the TCDS has produced six shows per season selected by the College-elected TCDS committee. Recent seasons have comprised one summer show and five during the main season, including a Dramafest submission and Shakespeare in the Quad.
